heirloom wool blanket - twill darning
Twill darning on an heirloom blanket that has been in the owner's family for over 3 generations. This blanket was handwoven in two panels, and stitched together to form an almost square blanket. It was coming apart at the centre seam, and the hemmed edges were fraying dramatically. There were also some minor holes and stains in the middle of the blanket. Holes and stains were covered up/filled in with twill darning, and the centre seam was reinforced. One edge was frayed so heavily that it was trimmed and re-hemmed. The other edge was darned intensively to maintain the original structure.
