FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is sliding-scale?
Sliding-scale pricing is my way of attempting to make my services accessible and reduce financial barriers for people of all income levels. Sliding-scale pricing structures are gaining popularity as folks work towards more ethical economies based on trust, energy exchange, and empathy.
How should I choose a sliding scale rate?
You can choose a rate that feels most comfortable for you. You can base this off of:
- How much do you generally make in an hour? Could you mirror that with one of these rates?
- How much can you afford to spend right now? I am happy to give an estimate on the time the mend will take to complete.
- Perhaps you can't pay much this time, but you can choose a different rate next time, when the financial flows in your life are more plentiful?
- Remember that I am happy to meet you where you are at! I’ve created these sliding-scale rates based on some favourite wild plants. All of these plants are equally important and beneficial to our earth & ecosystem. I hope they help remind you that any rate you can pay is completely valid and honoured.
What if my item seems to be 'beyond repair'?
I operate under the mentality that 'anything can be repaired'. Even if you think something may be too far gone, bring it to me and we can talk about the options for repair. Ultimately, my goal is to keep as much textile material out of landfill as possible. They are very precious things that should be saved!
If we do find that the item may be too expensive to afford a repair, I may be able to suggest some alternative uses for any undamaged materials - keep to use as patches for other garments, additions into a quilt, stuffing for a cushion, turning the pants into shorts, etc.
Do you do tailoring / alterations?
As much as I love learning about tailoring and clothing alterations, I am not an expert yet. I would be happy to hem pants, but any further alterations aren't yet offered.
Do you do zipper replacements?
Sorry - at this time, I don't offer zipper replacements.
What is your turnaround time?
You can expect your items to be mended within 1-2 weeks, unless there is significant and intensive work to be done on a piece. I'll try my best to give you an estimate of a timeline!
How do I find your studio?
It is a little tucked away! The studio is at the Dairy Building downtown Annapolis Royal. If you head to the intersection of St James and Church streets, you'll see a big red building with raised beds outside. Head down an alleyway on either side of the building, and my studio is at the back corner. You will see my sign, and likely you will see me through the sliding glass doors. Feel free to give me a call at 226.500.2395 if you have trouble finding it as well!
